Seize control of your bone health and joint vitality, as you have greater influence over conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, and joint discomfort than you might imagine. Achieving pain-free mobility during your later years is an attainable goal. Read more
I have written many times that in our later years, we want to protect our M & M’s, not as in chocolates but as in mind and movement. I talk a lot about our mind in many other topics and articles, but here I want to consider how to keep the body agile and able to move freely as we age.
As we get older, our joints, bones, muscles, and overall musculoskeletal system undergo a natural process of wear and tear. One of the most striking effects of age is the involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and function, a condition often termed sarcopenia. This deterioration can result from various factors, including decreased collagen production, hormonal changes, reduced physical activity, and dietary deficiencies.
Sarcopenia not only weakens our muscles but also affects joint stability and overall mobility, contributing to a decline in our quality of life. Therefore, protecting and supporting these critical structures becomes increasingly vital, as they play pivotal roles in maintaining our mobility, flexibility, and overall health as we age.
Did you know that your joints have a remarkable ability to self-repair? The cartilage in your knees, for example, can regenerate. By maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, and consuming joint-friendly nutrients, you can optimise your joint's natural healing capacity.
Despite the prevalence of joint and muscle issues with age, countless individuals lead vibrant lives well into their later years. With the right approach to exercise, nutrition, and proactive healthcare, you can defy the odds and enjoy the freedom of pain-free movement throughout your life.
At all stages of our lives, one of the most important things we can do is perform appropriate exercise. With the help of Double Gold Medallist James Cracknell & Scotland’s past International Football Captain Christian Dailly, we have written a fitness programme called LEFT MARS, which stands for Longevity, Exercise, & Fitness Training, incorporating Movement, Aerobic, Resistance, & Stance. Our programmes cover all ages and all levels of current fitness.

And before we even look at nutrition and supplements, I really firmly believe in appropriate exercise and appropriate stance for everyone.
With your exercise routine in place, here are some heavily researched supplements that help.
First and foremost, I always start with Collagen, which is the most abundant protein in the human body. Collagen is a primary component of joints and bones, providing strength and flexibility. As we age, literally from our early twenties, collagen production naturally decreases, leading to joint discomfort and reduced bone density. Collagen supplements can help replenish collagen levels, promoting joint mobility and bone health.

Magnesium: Magnesium is an essential mineral that contributes significantly to bone health. It aids in calcium absorption, a key component of bone structure, and supports bone density. Research has shown that magnesium deficiency may lead to bone loss and increased risk of osteoporosis. Supplementing with magnesium can help maintain strong and healthy bones as we age.

Zinc: Zinc is another vital mineral for maintaining joint and bone health, in- fact roughly 85% of zinc in the body is found in our muscles and bones. It supports collagen synthesis, a crucial protein for healthy cartilage and bone tissues. Zinc deficiency can impair bone development and increase the risk of osteoporosis. Ensuring adequate zinc intake through diet or supplementation can help protect and strengthen your bones and joints.

The research says, ‘Bone growth retardation is a common finding in various conditions associated with dietary zinc deficiency. Bone zinc content has been shown to decrease in ageing’. We offer 2 alternatives: a dedicated zinc supplement or you can find it in our MYVIT formula’s.
Vitamin D: Vitamin D is well-known for its role in calcium absorption, making it essential for bone health. It helps regulate calcium levels in the body, promoting the mineralisation of bones and preventing bone loss. Vitamin D deficiency is a common concern, especially among older adults, and supplementation can be vital for maintaining strong bones and joints.Turmeric: Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research suggests that curcumin may help reduce joint pain and inflammation, making it a valuable natural remedy for joint health. Incorporating turmeric into your diet or taking curcumin supplements may contribute to better joint mobility.
Omega-3: Omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish like salmon and flaxseeds have anti-inflammatory properties and may help alleviate joint pain and stiffness. Studies have indicated that regular consumption of omega-3-rich foods or supplements can support joint health and reduce the risk of inflammatory joint conditions.
Multivitamin & Multimineral: One of the reasons I wholeheartedly recommend our tailored MYVIT to everyone is indeed their ability to promote strong bones, joints and muscles and helping as we age to avoid osteoporosis. Manganese, calcium, vitamin K2, vitamin D and zinc are heavily researched in this area. And when it comes to MyVIT’s, all of your personalised formulas, regardless of how they are tailored for you, combine powerful doses of these vitamins and minerals.
One supplement that we currently do not sell, but you may find beneficial is Glucosamine. Our research and development team are currently working on this, but it may take us some considerable time to develop our own winning formula so for now search elsewhere for it.
Red Light Therapy: Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular activity. It has been shown to reduce joint pain and inflammation, accelerate tissue repair, and enhance overall musculoskeletal well-being. By promoting collagen production and reducing oxidative stress, red light therapy offers a promising solution for improving joint and bone health.
Magnotherapy: Magnotherapy involves the use of magnetic fields to support healing and relieve pain. If you visit our clinic, our experts can provide personalised guidance on whether magnotherapy is suitable for your specific needs.
Prioritising the health of your joints and bones through a combination of these supplements, treatments, and therapies can help you maintain mobility, reduce the risk of age-related musculoskeletal issues, and enjoy a better quality of life as you age.
